Is low testosterone making you feel off? What Australian men need to know

Feeling flat, struggling with energy, or noticing changes in your mood or body composition? For many Australian men, these are the first signs that something hormonal may be worth investigating.

What is low testosterone?

Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone. It plays a role in energy levels, muscle mass, mood, libido, bone density, and cognitive function. Levels naturally decline with age, but in some men they fall below a range that supports normal wellbeing.

Common symptoms

  • Persistent fatigue or low energy, even after adequate sleep
  • Reduced motivation or difficulty concentrating
  • Low mood or increased irritability
  • Decreased libido or changes in sexual function
  • Loss of muscle mass or increased body fat, particularly around the abdomen
  • Reduced morning erections

None of these symptoms alone confirm low testosterone. Many have other causes — persistent fatigue and changes in erectile health in particular are often driven by something else entirely. A clinical assessment and blood test are the only way to know.

What does a blood test involve?

A standard testosterone panel measures total testosterone, free testosterone, LH, FSH, and often a full metabolic screen. At Cedar Men's Health, blood tests are bulk-billed.

When should you see a doctor?

If you have three or more of the symptoms above, or if they are affecting your work, relationships, or quality of life, it is worth speaking to a doctor. Self-diagnosis and self-treatment carry real risks — testosterone therapy requires careful clinical oversight.
