What a telehealth consultation actually is
A telehealth consultation is a real medical appointment, conducted by video or phone, with an Australian registered doctor. It is not a chatbot, a questionnaire, or a "tick-the-box" process. The same clinical standards apply as an in-person visit — you simply meet your doctor online.
Before the consultation
Once you book a no-cost suitability consultation, you'll receive a confirmation with the date and time. Your doctor will call you by phone at your appointment time, so please ensure your contact details are correct and keep your phone nearby. Find a quiet, private space where you can speak freely. Have a list of any questions ready, and if you take any medications or supplements, note them down.
During the consultation
Your doctor will introduce himself and confirm your identity. He'll ask about your health history, your current concerns, and what you're hoping to understand. This is a two-way conversation — you're encouraged to ask questions at any point. The doctor may ask follow-up questions to build a complete picture of your health.
Nothing is decided for you in advance. The doctor's role is to assess, listen, and advise — not to push a particular outcome.
After the consultation
Your doctor will explain the next steps clearly. That might mean blood tests (bulk-billed, with no out-of-pocket expense), a follow-up consultation, a referral back to your GP, or simply reassurance that no further action is needed. You'll never be pressured into ongoing care, and you'll never be charged for something you didn't agree to.
A few practical tips
- Join from a quiet, private space where you can speak freely.
- Use a device you're comfortable with — phone, tablet or laptop all work.
- Write down your questions beforehand so you don't forget them.
- Be honest with your doctor — the consultation is confidential and judgement-free.
